“It’s one thing to make a picture of what a person looks like, it’s another thing to make a portrait of who they are.” -Paul Caponigro, 1932
I'm a San Diego based artist and designer working in the fashion and art industries.
I started making photos in 2011 to document and share my paintings and sculptures online and in print. But I wound up falling in love with making pictures. To me, capturing the light that brings a subject to life is one of the most essential disciplines of good photography.
Battling the tension between making something great and something average is a fight that all creatives endure. Whether it be on canvas, or holding a camera, I believe you have to master the foundation of a discipline before you can create something significant on a consistent basis. Otherwise, you're just getting lucky now and then. So I spend as much time as I can studying - sometimes learning how others do things, and most of the time learning about myself.
